Is Type 2 Diabetes Genetic?

Genetics alone cannot be blamed for the onset of type 2 diabetes. While it is a component associated with the disease, it’s not the only cause of it. There are other factors to consider when it comes to type 2 diabetes.

For example, obesity (BMI of 30 and above) also increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Excess weight can affect the cells of the body to resist insulin. This eventually leads to the development of type 2 diabetes.

An inactive lifestyle can also contribute to the onset of type 2 diabetes. A lifestyle that’s devoid of any kind of physical activity can lead to weight gain in a worst-case scenario, obesity. Poor eating habits could also trigger the onset of type 2 diabetes.

A regular diet that’s composed of soda, bread, pizza, and junk food can greatly attribute to the onset of type 2 diabetes. Regular intake of processed and grilled foods can also increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
