Scabies Symptoms, Signs, Causes, And Treatments

1. Nodules

The appearance of nodules is another symptom of scabies. Also referred to as nodular scabies, these nodules are hard, red, and itchy. They usually appear in the armpits and groin area.

The appearance of nodules in scabies is the result of a hypersensitive reaction to the mites. Unfortunately, they don’t disappear right away. They can remain even after treatment. In some cases, they can mimic several different illnesses that would require extended treatment.

Treatments

A prescribed medicinal cream or pill can be used to treat scabies. It gets to the source of the problem by killing the mites.

In some cases, there might be a need to apply medicinal cream all over the body, starting from the neck area and down to the feet. It may also be required to keep the medicinal cream on the body for about eight to fourteen hours.

Permethrin and sulfur creams are examples of medicinal creams. The former contains chemicals that kill both mites and eggs. Application is only once a day. It’s considered to be the most effective way to treat scabies.

Sulfur cream is also effective but it usually takes about five days to take effect. In case these creams don’t work, Ivermectin can be considered. This is an oral medication that can be taken to treat scabies.

These are the scabies symptoms worth knowing.
