Certain stretches may provide some alleviation to those with sciatica-related pain. Some people with sciatica find that stretching relieves their discomfort. A doctor may recommend stretches such as knees to chest, cobra or modified cobra, and seated hip stretch, to name mention a few.

These exercises can help relieve pain by lowering muscular tension, decreasing pressure on the sciatic nerve, addressing core stability, and improving posture.

12. Keep Your Body Moving

One of the most important ways to get relief from sciatica is to keep your body moving. Avoid sitting in one position for too long as this can cause a spike in your pain.

To ease pressure on your spine, try sitting or standing in different positions.

You can also try some gentle stretches to increase spinal flexibility and core strength. Some of these exercises can be performed while watching television or your favorite movie.

11. Oral Medications

Several oral medications may be used for sciatic pain relief. For example, oral medications such as aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and acetaminophen can help relieve pain. These are all over-the-counter medications.

If the over-the-counter dose does not alleviate your sciatica symptoms, ask your doctor if a prescription-strength medication is appropriate for you.

Patients with underlying medical issues, such as chronic kidney disease, are often discouraged from taking NSAIDs.
