One of the most important ways to get relief from sciatica is to keep your body moving. Avoid sitting in one position for too long as this can cause a spike in your pain.
To ease pressure on your spine, try sitting or standing in different positions.
You can also try some gentle stretches to increase spinal flexibility and core strength. Some of these exercises can be performed while watching television or your favorite movie.
11. Oral Medications
Several oral medications may be used for sciatic pain relief. For example, oral medications such as aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and acetaminophen can help relieve pain. These are all over-the-counter medications.
If the over-the-counter dose does not alleviate your sciatica symptoms, ask your doctor if a prescription-strength medication is appropriate for you.
Patients with underlying medical issues, such as chronic kidney disease, are often discouraged from taking NSAIDs.
10. Muscle Relaxants
Relaxants for muscles, such as cyclobenzaprine, relieve spasms and loosen tight, tense muscles. As a result of the underlying medical issue that causes sciatica, such as disc disease or inflammation of the lumbar and/or pelvic muscles, muscle spasms may develop.
These medications may alleviate back stiffness caused by muscular spasms and may be more effective for treating acute sciatica.
Due to their potential negative effects and the danger of addiction and dependence, these medications should be used with caution and may not be appropriate for those with liver, kidney, or heart conditions.
